Watching Tv On The Internet

Recommended Posts

Question 1.

Content - best to use a mix, or is there a one-shot source for this?

Note I'm not in the UK so it's a nuisance to go via proxies for BBC content, if there's somewhere I could go for it all without doing that, that would be great.

Question 2.

If I connect the laptop to a bigger screen, will it be any good if the screen is any bigger than, say, 24in?

I was going to consider getting Sky over the web but in view of the cricket teams efforts I may cancel that idea!

Watch everything via internet on a 32" tv monitor, currently use VGA cable but will upgrade to HDMI at some point, no TV Licence, no Sky package, just Virgin fibre optic broadband I know you're outside the UK but you could give these a go for your sport and movies:

Would think it was possible to reverse the mirroring function of something like an Apple TV and pull the TV content from a freeview box (assuming you know someone in the UK who'd be willing to house this) on to a paired computer in your current location over the internet? I'm sure a friend of my brothers was using a similar method to stream TV from a box in his mother's attic in the UK to his house in Thailand, but this was approximately a decade ago and I'm not not sure if the functionality remains in later models as TPTB may have stamped down on this for regional copyright infringement.

Alternatively you could just make friends with someone who works at the beeb and see if you can get access to their BBC Redux feed which isn't restricted by IP address ;)

For terrestrial try http://www.filmon.com/

Get skygo by asking a friend for their account details, they can upgrade to 6 devices for a fiver a month which you could offer to pay. Similar with btsport.

http://www.youtubeonfire.com/ for movies

http://www.wiziwig.tv/index.php?part=sports for most sports action using either sopcast or acestream links after installing the free software.
