Has anyone seen the Conservative facebook page? https://www.facebook.com/conservatives

Too many hardworking people found themselves unable to get on the housing ladder because of the big deposits needed to get a mortgage.

So we introduced the Help To Buy scheme - and in less than three months, it has helped thousands of families get a home of their own.

80% of applicants are first-time buyers - and the average house price under the scheme is £160,000, far below the UK average. Share The Facts about Help To Buy with everyone you know:

People who have worked hard and done the right thing deserve security and peace of mind in retirement.

So a Conservative government will continue to use the Triple Lock to protect the basic State Pension after the next election – ensuring pensions rise every year in line with wages, prices or by 2.5%, whichever is highest.

Labour, though, have said they will include the basic State Pension in their plans for a welfare cap – which means pensions could be frozen or cut if Labour win the next election.

We can't let that happen. Help protect pensions and give hardworking people security in their retirement by Sharing The Facts with everyone you know today.

We're fixing the welfare and immigration systems to end 'something-for-nothing' and support people who do the right thing.

So, from Jan 1st, EU immigrants will be banned from claiming out-of-work benefits during their first 3 months in Britain.

The Tories seem very gloomy about 2015. You'd think they'd be a bit more upbeat now they've balanced the books and got the housing market moving again.

Amazing that Conservatives see no problem with this statement.

Too many hardworking people found themselves unable to get on the housing ladder because of the big deposits needed to get a mortgage.

They don't seem to grasp that being "hardworking" doesn't necessarily mean you're productive. People who packaged up sub-prime loans were "hardworking".... but it bankrupted the west.

Secondly, if they're hardworking, what is causing the house price to be so high that the deposit is unattainable. By definition, the house price should fall in such circumstances.

I thought Conservatives understood market principles.... it appears they don't any more.

I ws hoping a few open minded individuals from here would visit their facebook page and tell it like it is. The help to buy page has been getting interesting: https://www.facebook.com/HelptoBuyEngland

I just had a look at the HTB page and some of photographs of the properties that represent 'success' stories

I am so glad I rent and have no emotional or financial attachment to the sh1t hole* I live in

*Although my rental is really very nice compared to what HTB can help you to buy, it seems.

Claims:

  1. People who have worked hard and done the right thing deserve security and peace of mind in retirement.
  2. We're fixing the welfare and immigration systems to end 'something-for-nothing' and support people who do the right thing.

Reality:

To qualify for a basic State Pension at least 1 of the following must apply:
  1. you were working and paying National Insurance
  2. you were getting certain benefits, eg for unemployment, sickness
  3. you were a parent or carer and claiming certain benefits or credits
  4. you have a spouse or civil partner whose National Insurance contributions cover you
  5. you were paying voluntary National Insurance contributions

How does number 2 fit the Consevative narrative? Do the 'something-for-nothing' brigade suddenly become hardworking when they hit the pension age? Does number 4 qualify as hardworking?

It seems like the narrative is under-25's are complete scroungers (no HB for these whipper snappers, just huge student debts), 25-35s are losers (unless they've loaded up on housing debt), 35-pension are regular scroungers (unless they're hardworking strivers), and pensioners are the chosen ones.

If ever proof was needed that young people use social media more than older people, that site's it. Good to see HTB getting the slating it deserves.

Is there a URL for it that is public? I've deleted my Facebook account as frankly Facebook is a waste of time.

Realistically, how much of the barrage of negative tone will make it all the way to Dave and George?

http://ogun.stanford.edu/~bnayfeh/plan.html

In the beginning was the plan.

And then came the assumptions.

And the assumptions were without form.

And the plan was without substance.

And darkness was upon the face of the workers.

And they spoke among themselves saying,

"It is a crock of shit and it stinketh."

And the workers went unto their supervisors and said,

"It is a pale of dung and none may abide the odor thereof."

And the supervisor went unto their managers and said,

"It is a container of excrement and it is very strong, such that none may abide by it."

And the managers went unto their directors, saying,

"It is a vessel of fertilizer, and none may abide its strength."

And the directors spoke among themselves, saying to one another,

"It contains that which aids plant growth and it is very strong."

And the directors went unto the vice presidents, saying unto them,

"It promotes growth and is very powerful."

And the vice presidents went unto the president, saying unto him,

"The new plan will promote the growth and vigor of the company, with powerful effects."

And the president looked upon the plan and saw that it was good.

And the plan became policy.

This is how shit happens.
