Nigel Farage: 'the Basic Principle' Of Enoch Powell’S River Of Blood Speech Is Right

Nigel Farage has said that the “basic principle” of Enoch Powell’s River of Blood speech is “right.”

The Ukip leader said that while he agreed with parts of Mr Powell’s infamous speech on how large scale immigration can change an area “beyond recognition” the 1968 speech was based on “different reasons” than the current immigration concerns.

Appearing on Sky’s Murnaghan show the Ukip leader was read excerpts from the speech without being told the origin of the comments and nodded along.

When it was revealed the words had been from Powell Mr Farage said: “Well what he was warning about was the large influx of people into an area, that change an area beyond recognition, there is tension – the basic principle is right.”

Is the media attempting to undermine Farage?

I remember a few years back yougov or one of the other pollsters did a phone survey about paying immigrants to leave. Firstly they phrased it as Labour policy and something like 9 out of 10 respondents supported it. Then the exact same policy was said to be bnp policy and 9 out of 10 said they disagreed with it. Just goes to show how utterly screwed up most voters are. Convince them martial law is 'mainstream' They'll support it. Convince them innocent until proven guilty is 'extremist' they'll gladly go along with that too.

However, in response to your question "Is the media attempting to undermine Farage" I think its all part of a conspiracy by the Pro-brussels UK media to conflate dislike of the EU with holding a right wing position on everything else to attempt to thin out the ranks of EU skeptics.

I dont know if Farage is in or this or not. Personally id rather UKIP stayed a primarily single issue party. There is absolutely nothing wrong with single issue parties.

Farage was asked if lots of migrants moved into an area was it likely there would be pressure on schools, houses, the NHS etc - which of course is what Powell did say.

Sorry but isn't that just blindingly obvious. So why the media hysteria?

Perhaps these media types need to get out and meet some real people!
