mgcall
Hi all, Does anyone have any experience with bringing smaller (100g and 250g) Silver bars into UK from NON EU countries? I am hoping, as they are a gift for my niece and nephew to use that allowance, but have heard that 39 pounds sterling is my limit for silver bars, which would scupper my plans... I have tried looking on HM Customs website, but it is not designed for things to be found easily and in fact is downright unfriendly to the user... Thanks for any help... Judging by the HMRC site, the value you can bring in from non-EU countries is £390. http://www.hmrc.gov....rivingnoneu.htm Maybe it's better just to ask them. http://search2.hmrc....20&raction=view

IF one were to be a frequent traveller, say for work purposes, then one could in theory over a year import quite a bit tax free?
Old Nis
Just like all other duty-free goods importation, the figures are per-trip. If you are transporting the stuff in your own transport (private plane or yacht, then the amount per trip is lower for some reason. Just the same as bringing in tax-free ciggies. Old Nis
"Other goods including perfume and souvenirs You can bring in other goods worth up to £390 without having to pay tax and/or duty. If you arrive by private plane or private boat for pleasure purposes, you can only bring in other goods worth up to £270 tax and duty free. [My bold] If you bring in any single item worth more than your allowance, you must pay duty and/or tax on the full item value, not just the value above the allowance. You also cannot group individual allowances together to bring in an item worth more than the limit." From the same link as above. About two-thirds of the way down. http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/customs/arriving/arrivingnoneu.htm
GinAndPlatonic
Silver really jumped yesterday. Now I`m starting to gaze longingly at Sarnia Silvers vat free sales again. ( I do not work for them !) Some of their cheapest 1 ounce silver rounds work out at around £455 a kilo including p&p..not bad when the cheapest kilo bars anywhere with vat/p&p added are around £507.
