China Eases One Child Policy

Recommended Posts

Probably doesn't matter what they tell the outside world. It's how it is handled inside China.

Is it good for the planet?

"China is now believed to have a birth rate of just over 1.5 children per woman of child-bearing age - which is, in fact, higher than many of its regional neighbours, including Taiwan, Japan and South Korea.

Niger has the world's highest birth rate per woman, with over seven, India has 2.55 and the US has 2.06."

I dont think will bring their birth rate to anything like replacement level. They will probably follow the other far eastern countries to a birth rate approaching 1 and a very aging population.
