John51 Posted December 21, 2013 Share Posted December 21, 2013 Late 60's there was a regular advert in the local rag (Liverpool Echo) on the lines of...your rent never goes up...if you stay there 25 years it becomes yours etc. etc. Turns out it was a private mortgage scam lol. Currently the choice is: get booted for complaining or live in a substandard and potentially hazardous environment. Whether the landlord subsequently gets forced to do some remedial work or gets fined is irrelevant to the individual. There's very little legal redress for bad treatment. The reality for tenants on a low income is to put up with it or face an expensive and disruptive move. It's not unreasonable to expect the law to afford you some rights, is it?
