Celebrity Farmers

Recommended Posts

Paul O`Grady, Kate Humble, Ade Edmondson, Martin Clunes to name but a few. Why is it that so many celebs are suddenly becoming farmers? Surely it`s not the lifestyle of a farmer that they want. Could it be that they are all financially advised that this is the best way to protect their dosh, given that there is no CGT or Inheritance Tax to worry about. OH, and the nice little earner Single Farm Payment.

Owning a farm is quite a pleasant and stress free way of life, as long as you don't need to make a living from it.

They are celebrities not farmers, they never can be farmers.

I'd love to see them do some of the real shit jobs on the farm....

They only pay lip service to it, bet most of them would struggle to reverse a trailer, grease a PTO or even drive a broom for any length of time.

They jut want to 'lord it up'.

If you didn't need to turn a profit to survive I think farming would be a healthy, grounding lifestyle to have.

Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull) had at one time 11 fish farms. Old article where he talks about how he lost money on property in the 1970's. Still has 7 BTL's now though.

There is currently no inheritance tax on farms, so many people with a bit of money go and buy a farm rather than just a house.

Got it in one. Plus subsidies and a bit of forestry?
