Do Most Restaurants Go Crap At Christmas?

Recommended Posts

The quality of the food, especially the steaks, seems to collapse in December. This year all 3 of us who ordered steak had to send them back.

I couldn't even cut mine with the saw like knife they issued me with and it was the worst steak I ever tried to have in my life. The second one

they sent was the 2nd worst steak I have ever had in my life. They didn't charge us for them and the waiter declined to attempt to cut it himself.

I have now learned my lesson and wont go near a restaurant in December/January.

Has anyone else noticed the food supply chain seems to go dodgy in these months?

One diner commented "all the good stuff goes to China and the bastards down south".

Agree 100%

Even normally decent eating places become mediocre in December. The rest are just dire. IMHO one of the main reasons is that too many restaurants try to cash on on the Christmas trade and simply take more bookings than they can handle. In fact at this time of year it is probably safest to stick to the sort of diner that specialises in all day breakfasts if you want something edible.

Absolutely. Last Christmas our work dinner in a pub was treated to turkey roll with Aunt Bessie's stuffing balls and roast potatoes. Bleah! Never again.

I had this experience last year.

Basically the place was a pizza/pasta chain (not a bad one) that worked by shipping in most of its meals frozen then just heating them up.

Unfortunatly some genius in head office decided that they should offer a christmas manu, bad idea. The problem was that to offer a christmas menu you actually need people who can cook and, for obvious reasons. they just were not set up for that. Result: major embarassment.

I expect the xmas menu to be shite, like aunt bessie type of stuff but even the usual menu becomes inedible.

If I had the money I think I'd just fly to Australia on 1st December, have fun in Sydney for a few weeks then

watch the Australian Open tennis in Melbourne during January.

I don't suppose there are any wealthy "off topic" women who are beautiful, aged between 18-40, size 8 and want

to spend 2 months with a dickhead in Australia?

I'd definitely skip going anywhere for dinner on Christmas Day. Did it last year because we'd recently moved and had no appliances beyond a microwave. The wife's meat dish was pretty good, huge slab of local meat, tons of veg and gravy. But the vegetarian option - oh dear me. A huge plate arrived - and something resembling half a pastie rescued from the darkest recesses of an onboard train shop sat forlornly in the middle of it - and it tasted just like one too. Admittedly it wasn't the only course - but it was the main so everything else was smaller.

I don't suppose they care, but they lost a customer for life that day. Note to restaurant owners everywhere - make sure the person paying the bill doesn't go away hungry or pissed off.

One year a Christmas works do the service and the meal was rubbish, far too busy, too fewer staff and food below an acceptable quality....they were happy to hand over crap, they know they may never see you again, they think people won't complain whilst in the company of people they don't normally eat with ......serve rubbish at your peril.....people may pay up on the day but they can easily talk making what would normally be a good restaurant bad by giving it a bad reputation.

The old saying goes....eat where you know it to be consistently good.....people don't tend to shit on their own doorstep.......walls have ears and mouths. ;)
