Condom Law Collapses La's Pron Industry

Recommended Posts

The number of film permits issued to pornography producers has dropped 95 percent in Los Angeles County since a condom mandate went into effect last January.

Only 24 permits for adult films have been filed so far in LA County in 2013, compared with 480 filed in the same period last year, according to the Free Speech Coalition, the adult film industry trade group. Film permits are legally required for filming outside of a certified sound stage or studio backlot, whether the filming is conducted on public or private property.

The new law, which voters passed in November 2012, requires that condoms be used on adult film sets in LA County.

So put in a new law which makes the product unsellable and 95% of the production moves elsewhere.

Well who'd have thought that would happen?

Unlike the Los Angeleans we have taken the blanket approach across all British industries of:

high housing costs -> high wages -> high production costs -> all production goes overseas

I bet they're finding that hard to swallow.

"Film permits are legally required for filming outside of a certified sound stage or studio backlot, whether the filming is conducted on public or private property" - this seems a little draconian?

This is the self proclaimed "land of the free" remember...

Why didnt they stop making porn years ago? Its not like the plot is any different to 30 years back. Other than hairy bits down below, nothings changed. A 1970s porno serves exactly the same purpose as a brand new one.

I thought it was all the amateur free stuff online that killed off the porn film industry?

I think you are correct. France has had a condom law for a long time and they still churn out films, at least judging by the top shelf of my local tabac... not that I look at the top shelf mags but I was quite surprised to see a burd who lives in the same village as my mum on the front cover of one.

Many say that porno in the 70s was better anyway, less formulaic, usually a bit of a storyline, less reliance on plastic gazongas.

Otherwise, as you say, the basic interaction hasn't altered at all.

I'm not sure if I can believe that. I feel I must do some research. For educational purposes only you understand.

It's a field of culture worthy of academic study IMHO, especially so as much of it gets lost. I heard a radio programme on Georgian prostitution where it was an accepted industry and there were accompanying books published which have survived describing each lady and her talents. Absolutely fascinating, a real facet of civilisation, but most of us if we found such when clearing out a relative's possessions would discreetly throw it away.

Ah is that what they call it nowadays?

It's the hairy bits above, I think. Men who look like the ones in the adverts for 118 118 are less of a turn-on than was once the case.

Nobody has a big moustache today apart from German Bikers!

It all looks so daft now, like sideburns, and other things I saw in the "Sweeney"!

The shaved pubes in modern porn films tend to remind me of the skin of the uncooked chicken on the shelves of UK supermarkets which is probably why I don't find most of them very arousing.

Personally I find it preferable to 'sushi off a barbershop floor'...

But yes...there must be enough free porn on the internet now to entertain every man on earth until permanent blindness sets in!
