Too Embarrassed To Be Thrifty?

Recommended Posts

Here's the perfect way to save on heating bills now the gas and electricty prices have gone silly.

Warm, cheap (£15), you can wear it over underwear or even your clothes, it will save you a fortune in heating bills. But would you answer the door in it? What if there was a wolf or camouflage version?

And we will take it as read that the model is attractive so ccc would. So no dodging the question - would you wear it?

Call me a snob but I can't imagine ever shopping at Dunelm Mill.

Eh? They have some fantastic stuff. You get what you pay and that's clear in the way they arrange it - by thread count. The top thread count duvet covers and sheets are superb.

Not cheap though. But what price individuality?

Just before last Christmas I found the best selection of good quality, pure cotton sheets and duvet covers I have seen outside John Lewis, in Dunelm Mill in Barnstaple. And quite a bit cheaper than JL , too.

Have you lot been living in a hole? The fashion-forward yoof have been wearing 'onesies' for a few years now, mostly sans stupid bunny ears ;)

That doesn't look like it would be very warm. It doesn't fit very tightly, so there will be lots of big air pockets inside which will fill up with warm air while you sit still, and the moment you move the warm air will move out of the suit and be replaced with cold air from outside. You want something that hugs your figure so the warm air is trapped against your skin.

Well, that sounds like a wetsuit to me. And as I will hold off going for a wee so I can do one in the wetsuit for that initial bit of warmth (nb - not recommended if you expect to be in for hours, you'll get a rash) then maybe this onesie works on the same principle. I assume it's machine washable.

My preferred method, you are risking skin grafts and yep I fill up with boiling water too.................

Ah............ too embarrassed to turn up at A and E after exploding hot water bottle apparently. Most manage the injuries themselves.

Quentin Frew, of Anglia Ruskin University, said: 'Anecdotally we have seen an increase in burns caused by hot water bottles in the last couple of years.

'It could be that more people are using them as a cost-effective way of keeping warm or it could be that people are buying cheaper hot water bottles over the internet from abroad. "

Hot water bottles from abroad? Doesn't everyone know you can't trust foreign made goods! Frankly they're asking for it.

I'm guessing these would make a good stocking filler..........

That's right. Stick to .co.uk and you should be safe although personally I always shop on the high street to be sure not to get anything from abroad.

In New Zealand, land of many drafts and not much central heating, they take their hotties (and long johns) very seriously. The sale of unlicenced hot water bottles is banned specifically by legislation...

NZ: Ban on unsafe hot water bottles continues

“Since the ban on unsafe rubber hot water bottles was first put in place in 2004, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs has received no complaints about hot water bottles. This shows the ban is working,” says Stephen O’Brien.

My daughter has had a couple of these for some time now. We have a very cold house and they are great. I have yet to make the leap though.

She tells me One Piece from Norway are the best and looking at their site they have some really stylish ones: http://www.onepiece....gry-birds-black

until I came across this......

I'm guessing these might be a sensible stocking filler too this Christmas......

Spoken like a man who has never been on the blob.

I had a long term ex who was welded to her hottie. Used that same expression too. So it wasn't just her then.

My gf would have a summer duvet on in January with the window open. I thought I liked a cold bedroom as I sleep better but she beats me.

A bit like my partner now, she won't allow the central heating on yet.
