Do Pakistanis Laugh At Citizen Khan?

Recommended Posts

Last night on Fivelive the presenter Phil Williams did some kind of 'comedy' sketch with this Khan character - it was cringe-makingly bad. I was embarrassed lying in bed listening to it and had to switch over to another radio station.

It reminded me of the strait-laced lieutenant in 'Good Morning Vietnam' who took over DJing from Robin Williams' character and then proceeded to do the most embarrassing act of really bad different voices.

But hey, the above series is the BBC and Islam so it can do no wrong - apart from not being funny at all IMPO.

I've never seen it myself, but my 70-year-old dad seems to quite enjoy it, despite not being any more diversity-friendly than your typical old white Englishman of farming stock. I think it's the 70's sitcom aspect of it that he likes.

They've replaced My Family with something that is actually worse...I'm not sure how that is possible.

I have successfully avoided.both. Fortunately :-)

I did laugh out loud when I heard that that Pakistani Taliban leader had been droned. So some Pakistanis can make you laugh.

They will just replace him with another nutjob and kill a load of innocents in retaliation. Yep bloody hilarious.

Interesting thought process there. He is murdering loads of people but we shouldn't do anything about it out of fear of his successors killing people?

Are you Neville Chamberlain?

I have had to endure a couple of episodes over the last fortnight and must admit I am warming to it.

The highlight last night was the daughter (who Khan thinks is a devout muslim) sneaking out in the middle of the night to go clubbing and finding Khan on the PC in the front room. Quick as a flash she whips a plastic bag on her head and passes it off as a waterproof hijab....

Don't knock it till you have watched a couple of episodes. Maybe it has the potential to be as good as Dads Army, Citizen Smith and All Allo, which were all great British Comedy.

On the other side of the coin it probably represents the right ethnic mix in Sparkhill Brum. A point which the actors themselves take the pi$$ out of.

Watched it last night and felt it was an improvement over the first series but it'll never be 'edgy' enough for me. I'd like to see Frankie Boyle added to the writers.

I suppose a similiar question could be posed.

Do Irish people find Mrs Brown's boys funny? One of the best comedies to grace our screens in the last 5 years or so?

Funny or not. It's worth watching just to see Bhavna Limbacia rolleyes.gif

Assuming she plays the youngest daughter?

I heard one British serviceman in Afghanistan compare it with mowing grass.

I believe that it's reasonably well acknowledged by the people who specialise in these sorts of things that the act of killing insurgents results in the creation of more insurgents. Particularly if you're not 100% on the ball with your target selection and start drawing in people who were otherwise keeping out of the conflict.

Historically, the proven way to 'win' these kinds of conflicts is that you either have to get semi-genocidal or reach an accommodation with the locals and **** off out of it.

The Taliban are a disorganised rabble, just because one faction maybe wanted to discuss peace did not mean the others did.

One less is no great shakes nor too much to worry about.

Sadly, I find MBB's as being pretty dreadful...there are very comedies that have actually done anything for me over the last ten years or so...
