The Number Of Days In Which Jpmorgan Lost Money Trading In 2013 Is...

Recommended Posts

Why is that surprising? Is it without precedent? Unusual? How many days on average do banks chalk up losses per year?

It's unusual to have no down days and actually pretty hard to believe given that they were still sorting out the tail end of the London Whale losses. Having said that they are huge and very diversified both in terms of products and geography so maybe. What's also true is that the big US banks with retail licenses have moved away somewhat from prop trading due to the Dodd Frank Act / Volcker rule so will show less trading volatility than before.
