Dandelion Root Coffee

Recommended Posts

Has anybody successfully made this?

I roasted some scrubbed roots in the oven yesterday but took them out when they were beginning to char. No way would they have made coffee but I tried eating them, they were similar in texture to parsnips but there was a slightly bad aftertaste.

Anyway, coffee was the aim so has anybody succeeded and what do I need to do differently?

Urgent answers please as this is the right time of year for thick roots B)

Frank, I'm probably being a bit mean about my ex. She could do a fantastic roast! And she was (unusually) very good with money.

Not a week's worth but ..

You want some Jack by the hedge if you want to eat your own weeds.

And some

Blanching the dandelions and eating the leaves in a salad is also possible.

As Victoria Wood said of Morrissey after people pointed out the near-identical lyrics of some of their songs and suggested that there might be something going on between them (I paraphrase as it's from memory and ****ed if I can find the original quote):

I have been in a long and loving relationship with Sarah for many years now, although we have yet to actually meet! :P

None of us have ever met, although I think I went near your house once! You would probably find me disappointing in real life! :(

I did say the next time you were in Bugle I would drive over for a beer; the offer still stands Mr Pin. I actually now know somebody who lives there, but I doubt they go in the pub much (under the thumb).

Then, indeed, we shall find each other, "disappointing" in real life"!

I really hope the local newspaper is called The Bugle Bugle.

Meandering the thread further I heard a magpie "chattering" yesterday. I haven't heard this for ages and I looked up to see what it was, it really was like raucous chattering.

This is the reason that in Italy their name, gazza, was turned into gazette or chatterer for the local news, and this came into this country for some local papers.

Gazza is also famous for the La Gazza Ladra, the thieving magpie and not, as the high court judge hearing a case on the registration of the word "gazza" as a trademark for Paul Gascoigne translated it: the sicillian ladder.

I am Reg Smeaton :)
