Road For A Drunk Driver

It looks like the person with the line dotting machine had been to the pub recently.

It looks like the line has been drawn equidistant from the edges of those stupid pink patches. Foreshortening with a long lens probably makes it look worse.

Even the rural environment is now blighted with these over-baked, fussy marking schemes.

Mu pet hate is cycle lanes on pavements, weaving aroound highlighted street furniture.

Ah, I see.

Just needs a suspension-punishing speed bump every 10 yards and you have the ideal road.

and a few traffic islands...

and some roadworks with temporary traffic lights... that are set to change every 10 minutes.

All that would make it a Council's wet dream.

Sounds like the car park at my office! I just have to ask why? :(

I wonder how much all that time and paint cost, and who actually uses those lanes in practice. Don't forget any paintwork will need repainting when it fades.

It's disappointing how much money is thrown away on ridiculous stuff like this.

It is my belief that the white line was not needed at all. Wherever you are in the World, there is usually a rule to pass one side or the other. It's arbitrary, of course, which side that is, except in Egypt, where it is random.

'Before the Roman came to Rye or out to Severn strode

The rolling English drunkard made the rolling English road.

A reeling road, a rolling road, that rambles round the shire,

And after him the parson ran, the sexton and the squire,

A merry road, a mazy road, and such as we did tread,

The night we went to Birmingham by way of Beachy Head.'

Etc, 3 more verses, G K Chesterton.

Sounds like my drive to work, all following the old Saxon fields! Wish the bloody Romans had made it here!

Actually when I drive the depicted road, I am drunk, and it all looks straight!

Since the M4 opened,

The A4's barely missed,

A motorway is straighter,

So better when you're p*ss*d.

- Happy renting
