Saudi Arabia Declines Security Council Seat, Cites Failure To Halt Wars

Saudi Arabia said on Friday it would not take up its rotating seat on the United Nations Security Council, citing "double standards" which it said hampered the world body's ability to end conflicts.

It is the second time this month that Saudi Arabia has publicly expressed discontent over what it sees as the Security Council's failure to take action to stop a civil war in Syria that has killed more than 100,000 people.

"The kingdom sees that the method and work mechanism and the double standards in the Security Council prevent it from properly shouldering its responsibilities towards world peace," the foreign ministry said in a statement carried by state news agency SPA.

Saudi Arabia, along with Chad and Nigeria, were elected by the U.N. General Assembly on Thursday to serve a two-year term on the U.N. Security Council as human rights groups called for all three countries to improve their records.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry said it was unable to take its seat until reforms were introduced, but did not specify what reforms it wanted.

U.S.-allied Saudi Arabia has been angry over what it says is the failure of the international community to help either Syrian rebels fighting to topple President Bashar al-Assad or Palestinians seeking an end to more than four decades of Israeli occupation.

Ah so it's the wars which are in part being funded by the Saudi's who are hiring foreign mercenary's? And yet somehow it's other nations with double standards or is this an admission of Saudi's double standards?

Just a reminder that the 100,000 figure was conjured up by the Syrian Observatory on Human Rights, or somesuch. Based in Coventry. So we have no idea if the figure is accurate. However 60,000 of those deaths are to the Syrian Government Security Forces which Saudi Arabia is to some extent responsible for.

I thought the saudis were backing the rebels?

they are.

it's important to remember that in that area, you (ex-isreal) you have 3 regional players vying for hegemony of the caliphate.

iran, turkey and saudi arabia....all 3 backed by respective western powers.

US/UK=saudi

Germany=Turkey

Russia=iran

the three have very different and contrasting views of how to run it...basically the islamic equivalent of protestant/catholic during the reformation

Actually this is very significant, as the cathars have a saying that every 700 years the treen grows green- analogous to seasonal "evolution" of belief systems.....and mohammed was supposed to be born abut 600ad.......so on terms of 700 year cycles this as happening right on schedule....so expect lots of pain and bloodshed as the islamic "reformers" battle the hardline absolutist clerics.

in terms of "roman" type 700 year cycles:

330 ad......council of nices

1050ad....crusades

1770 ad...french revolution/us independence

in terms of "muslim" 700 year cycles

possibly 120bc( birth of age of pisces in astrological terms")

600ad...birth of mohammed

1307ad....pope orders systematic extermination of templars, declaration of arbroath

2020ad...the next cycle( I actually believe this will be closer to around 2040 as I think the cycle is 720 years rather than 700)...but we're getting close and it's gonna get a bit hairy.

from birth of jesus(ie around 4bc estimate)

700ad( alfred the great I think

1420ad( start of protestant reformation...bibles start rolling off printing presses)

2140ad......next new cycle.....internet becomes totally public domain after a few years of being resticted by "the priesthood"...just like the church used to ban bibles apart from adept priests to keep people dumb.......I guess this is the next attempt to repeat....and it will fail(again)

1300ad.........
