Scottish Economy And House Prices In Media

Recommended Posts

I live in Scotland, I had heard of Glasgow Airport and Edinburgh Airport but I had never heard of Prestwick Airport until this story broke.

Is Prestwick a major population centre with loads of international businesses headquartered there or something?

Not really. It used to be a big military airbase. Think it may even have the longest runway in the UK.

They kept it on and Ryanair chose it - assume they pay far less than for their slots in Edinburgh or Glasgow.

With all the flights you can get out of Glasgow and Edinburgh these days - many of them budget - i don't really see the need for it. Unless maybe it does a lot of freight etc ?

In the 70's it used to be a stop of point for 747's from Heathrow/Gatwick to pick up extra passengers and fuel before the long haul over the Atlantic, the 747's range has been improved significantly since then
