French Stop Some Amazon Books Sales

Recommended Posts

French are on course to approve a law that will prevent online book retailers including Amazon from offering free deliveries of discounted books.

A Bill, designed to support small bookstores struggling in the face of competition from the internet, was backed unanimously in the lower house National Assembly.

In Spain no supermarket is allowed to sell cigs newspapers which is keeping alive the small village retailer , saving people having to drive to one of these ghastly out of town superstores . We could do the same but now its too late.

The law was voted today and comes into effect from the 1st of January 2014.

When you buy a book from Amazon you normally pay the same price as if you had bought it in your local bookstore but you also benefit fom a free delivery.

The bookstores consider this as a form of book dumping or "unfair competition" they can't compete.

This has been going on for the last 6 years not forgetting problems with Amazons tax evasion in France.

In Spain a supermarket is not allowed to sell cigs but i noticed that certain get round this by having a little fag shop in the same building near the check outs.

Not inside but not outside either 200 fags cost 44 euros compared to 66 euros in France.
