The Distraction

Recommended Posts

So the US have a planned shutdown to distract us from what exactly? What are they up to?

Usually when shenanigans like this is going on it is to distract the media from something else.

R5 had two guests on via telephone late last night. One being some politician sounding guy talking about hard-working people and how it's a disgrace Congress/Republicans are blocking the extension. The other a Congressman, or at least someone directly involved in not passing the extension.

He claimed there had not been a budget put to them for 5 years, and that they had real concern about all the debts being stacked up. After 'hard-working people' guy had another dig at him, the Congressman finally snapped and said "Our children's futures are being stolen from them."

Did the 'Congressman' suggest cutting military spending or raising taxes?

As far as I can tell, most of this is motivated by a desperate desire to kill Obama's health care reforms, because allowing poor people to get access to healthcare is, after all, a classic sign of communist oppression. The same guys who are now complaining about overspending were quiet as mice when Bush Junior was racking up the debt in the 'good times' on things like tax cuts for the rich and optional foreign wars.

Poor people have two or three ways to get healthcare in the US.

Medicaid, and currently, the MANY Charity Hospitals set up by communties and Medical Practioners sticking to their Hyppocratic Oaths.

Obamacare does away many of these community Organisations access to funding as each District would be restricted to one providorof Insurance cover.....and they can therefore decide which meds, treatments and Hospitals are covered.

I watched this yesterday on iplayer

http://www.bbc.co.uk...eek_29_09_2013/

Ok one sided but the Americans health system seems to be very expensive and there must be a lot op VI's that want to keep it that way.

Financialisation and Government interference....rather than watching crimes and prosecuting, ALWAYS leads to everyone getting shafted.

No controls, no liabilities and no oversight leads to Ponzi Destruction of ANY system.

Wow really. The tea party guy must have been really concerned about that. I wondered what he convinced his GOP mates to do...

...Oh wait, I know, he along with the rest of them delayed and blocked the creation of the committee that would negotiate and present such a budget. And when it comes to negotiating on an interim budget, agree a deal but block any progress in order to delay an unrelated bill (Obamacare) that had already been approved.

Then he goes on talk radio and TV and complains about not having a budget put to him.

Moron. I guess he isn't really. Lots of people just hear the soundbites and suck them up because the arcane shenanigans these guys put into action when in Congress/Senate sound too complex to understand.

According to Denninger's medical posts, the vast majority of charity hospitals have already been lost since 1986 as EMTALA was enacted.

As far as I can tell, poor people in the US get treatment exactly as they would here, but with a massive debt they'll never pay hanging over their heads. But the whole Obamacare thing does seem like a monopolists wet dream, the way options seem to be being restricted.

I just can't help thinking that whilst they are distracting everyone with this shutdown (which the government have forced upon themselves) they are robbing people blind and changing laws willy-nilly in the background?

There must be something else big going on, but what? Firstly the Syria distraction, and now this..

I have checked RT, Infowars, Zerohedge and found nothing? No conspiracy theories at all. That's what makes me think that all this is a BIG distraction for something else that is going on?

Actually, RT, ZH and Infowars are themselves false-flag operations by the US government.

Trust me, my tin foil hat is gold lined.

The reality is that there is a ferocious, take-no-prisoners attack on any measure in the US that might possibly benefit the poor, partly backed by the big medical insurers in this case, partly by teabaggers on general grounds of being crazy.

Belief in governments and the prevailing money system is floundering so they need to try and up the ante, make it look like a big deal that they are trying hard to get agreement on, hence this possible pantomime, but I don`t believe that congressmen vote as part of a conspiracy, I just think their system is f*ucked.

Yes, in a country where the majority of Americans go to Church and 90% of them believe that they have a guardian angel it is interesting how caring for the sick is seen as communism.

That Jesus Christ must have been a commie - going around healing the sick for nothng.

I was watching a Fox news debate on taxation in which everyone agreed that taxation was essentially evil and needed to be stamped out- but then the show cut to a live reporter covering the New York hurricane who spent five minutes berating the state and federal authorities for their inability to deal with the crisis and the overall lack of personnel and equipment being deployed- after which the team went back to their discussion about how taxation was evil and needed to be stamped out.

It's true what they say about Americans- irony is not their forte.

I also recall that shortly before the financial crash the Bush administration had voted down a welfare measure on the grounds that 200 million dollars was impossible to find in the budget- shortly afterward they managed to rummage down the back of the sofa and produce 800 billion dollars to bail out the banks.

Very expensive - but very good by all accounts by those who can afford to pay. And if you don't have to pay for everyone yourself, you don't have to suffer NHS levels of care but can afford much better for you and your family.

That is how those in power are thinking (for themselves). That's what humans do. Invisible hand and all that...influence outcomes for selfish reasons. Apparently that is all good according to Adam Smith who made it acceptable.

Forcing everyone to be charitable to everyone else, regardless of how responsible they have been, has also been made acceptable by statists. However, this is also an oxymoron - charity (by definition) has to be given, not taken.

Ofc, some* will only be charitable, when they think they will get something out of it (even if just a warm glow). In that sense, giving charity is still a selfish act, but one that occurs regardless.

EDIT: * Arguably 'all', as they wouldn't make the donation (trade), if they didn't feel better afterwards.

Ours would be a lot more expensive if it were available to the majority when we need it.
