Swiss Army Prepares For French Breakup, Descent Into Warlordism

Recommended Posts

A secret military exercise elaborated by the Swiss high command has prepared their armoured divisions for an invasion from French warlords centered on Dijon according to le Matin Dimanche. In the wargames (carried out in late August), France, wrecked by an economic crisis, breaks up into small but bankrupt states run by warlords. One of these, the Saônia (Soane region) decides to invade Switzerland. The Dijon Free Brigades cross into CH via Neuchâtel, Lausanne and Genève (despite the famous Geneva traffic jams, quips the local French paper).

Do the Swiss know something we don't? It is a scenario worthy of Max Keiser.

They have to invent SOME scenario, their biggest borders are with France and Italy, who is the most credible invader? (There's Germany as well, but they hardly ever invade anyone else..)

They've already invaded where I work and have taken control of IT, much to the detriment of the Swiss company concerned.

They're quite a militaristic lot the Swiss. They still have national service. Their reservists keep their assault rifles at home along with sealed tins of ammunition. They travel to and from their exercises on public transport with the guns strapped to their rucksacks. On a recent visit I saw long trains carrying armoured vehicles trundling around.

I don't know how much they spend on defence per capita compared with the UK, but their army is a lot more visible on a day-to-day basis than ours. If the French did invade I suspect the reaction would be pretty swift.
