MPs have finally started making noises about a crackdown on cowboy letting agents, after years of complaints from tenants and amateur landlords struggling to overcome rip-off fees. Ministers want to introduce minimum standards in the lettings industry, and give regulators powers to ban agents who indulge in sharp practice. But any regulation is likely to take months to come into force — and the soaring number of London renters has also seen a growth in scams luring the naïve into paying unfair or fraudulent fees. Fake property listings are one area renters need to avoid. Bogus letting agents or landlords may advertise a property online and ask for money upfront for a tenant to secure it. Link

It looks like next election campaign begins.

As many here have predicted there will be a tipping point as politicians do not merely pander to property owners and those with mortgages as the priced-out age.

Even the once smug previous generations don't really like seeing their 20 and 30 something offspring raising babies in dank rented flats or cramped homes in rough areas with mortgages the size of a mountain.
