LiveinHope
c'mon Vincent. you know what the problem is...do something about it for our children's sake. Vince likes nothing more than stirring the pot Ministers have previously insisted the Tory-Lib Dem pairing would last until the 2015 election campaign begins. But asked by journalists if a separation could happen sooner, Mr Cable said: "It's certainly possible". Well it's certainly possible that lightening might strike Vince Cable or he might not be a weasel. Non story then, move along. Caption to the picture of Vince on the BBC website reads Vince Cable was speaking at a conference fringe event Vince Cable is and always will be fringe, sniping from the sidelines, although he thinks he is centre stage. Must be a nightmare to have on your team. I'd have sacked him. With this image btw, where the facial expression says it all Edited September 16, 2013 by LiveinHope

thecrashingisles
Can you imagine Vince as a top finance bod at Shell? Beggars belief. He wasn't a top finance bod. FreeTrader
Has Clegg said that? Interesting. Clegg feels disquiet over Help to Buy Comes across as a spin doctor play. Don't know what's going on, but maybe the Treasury is feeling the heat on HtB and is preparing the ground for a climb down (although that article suggests it will only happen after HtB has been introduced and only in the event of a surge in prices). Edit: either that or the LibDems are getting cold feet over possible political fallout from HtB. blobloblob
The 3 corrupt dinosaur parties will conspire to ensure that the next general election will come before the European elections. Not to do so would see UKIP go into the general election on the back of a European vote so large, it would make their absence from any leadership debate look beyond banana republic. FreeTrader
Thanks for that link. I see Sky News are reporting it too. Clegg's Reservations Over Help To Buy Scheme That's what I meant about the spin. Notice how Sky has: "Nick Clegg has private reservations about the government's controversial Help to Buy scheme, his allies have told Sky News." And the FT has: "The deputy prime minister has said publicly that he supports the project, but his allies have told the Financial Times he shares concerns expressed by Vince Cable about the impact of the second part of the scheme, which begins in January." The Masked Tulip
This is just blatant electioneering. The Liberals know that they have to separate themselves from the Tories in order to try and not get wiped out at the next election. They have to try and redefine their identity. It is abundantly clear over the last week that good old Vince has been given the job of achieving this in the run-up to the election. So he comes out over the weekend saying that the government's plan - of which he is a member of the Cabinet - for housing will create another housing bubble. The Liberals can be seen to be opposed ramping up HPI... and then Clegg and Danny Boy come out and says that there is no housing bubble.. Now Vince says the Coalition might split. Give it 12 hours and Clegg and Danny Boy will be saying that there is no chance of that. This is electioneering people. Don't fall for it. “Nasty Piece of work”
The whores of modern politics will never do anything that will endanger their ability to scoff in the trough. They are too much in love with pretending to be in power, and will happily pimp their Mother. Seeing VC on Newsnight, I wanted to buy some snake oil off that nice man. okaycuckoo
Cable didn't say the gubmint might split - he was asked if it was possible the LDs would withdraw 6 months before the election, and he answered that he could give no useful information. I had the chance to watch some of the debate at the LD conference today and was impressed. They rightly pride themselves on proper debate instead of the grand-standing boredom of LabCon. Plus all the issues common to HPC were raised. If you want to vote for a party that gets your complaints now you know. The leadership mightn't be sympathetic (apart from Cable), but at least the members force it into the open.

Again, blatant electioneering so that they can claim to be right whatever happens. Housing bubble grows and economy is right. Hooray, Clegg was right behind the plan. Housing bubble crashes the economy. Hooray, Clegg was always against it. Makes your sick doesn't it. A lot of the posters on this forum probably can't imagine what it's like to have conviction politicians – individuals who actually believe in what they're arguing. Back in the 1970s and 1980s however they did exist (and no doubt before then, but that's the limit of my experience). That didn't stop you wanting to put a brick through the TV when you heard them (depending on which side of the fence you were on), but you had a grudging respect for them. These days: PPE degree --> party jobsworth --> MP --> cabinet --> investment bank --> envoy/consultant/quango chief --> massive pension --> sh!t-shovelling in Hades [Okay, the last part is wishful thinking.] Edited September 17, 2013 by FreeTrader
