Fred Goodwin Seen As Narcissist

Recommended Posts

Then there's the macro banking failings to do with RBS some of which are listed in the link below.

http:/

which lists 7 of the failings - and for sure that's only a start.

Maybe they should have listed the non-flat topped filing cabinets, the colour scheme obsessions and the obsession with removing cigarette "butts" etc etc as well.

Know what to look out for in future.

Some similar articles on other "leaders" of similarly failed and bailed out banks and financial "institutions would be in the public interest as well.

The guardian gave a timeline of events for the collapse

http://

www.theguardian.com/business/2011/dec/12/rbs-collapse-timeline

Amazing that he was spending his time scouting for cigarette ends and inspecting filing cabinets and so on while all that was going on.

“The public-spirited thing for Goodwin to do would be to donate himself to the psychology department of a decent university so that academics could run years of detailed tests.”

Similar to Gordon 'blame sue' Brown then...

"It started in America."

But a nation of narcissists and magic thinkers didn't need to be persuaded it wasn't their fault.

It wasn't anyone's fault. It was a global event like being hit by a meteorite. No-one could have predicted it or planned for it.

Anyone who takes big risks with others money to make money and pays money to others from the money they make is encouraged by and for the recipients of the big money to take bigger risks and spend and borrow more money so as to feed more money to even more happy people, so bigger and bigger risks are taken to making and paying more and more money to more people, until...pop....and its gone. ;)

and in that Mansion House speech......around the time Goodwin was knighted.....Gordon Brown asked the Banks to 'take more risks'.

I also heard (from RBS sources) that his personal office was panelled in expensive wood flown in from Italy or somewhere, when it was done he didn't quite like the colour so had it all ripped out and redone.

Narcissists live in constant fear of being found out. By micro-managing, controlling and bullying people in the workplace the narcissist keeps people off-balance and not focussed on the fact that the narcissist is doing a really bad job at whatever his or her job is.

The beautiful thing is, with most businesses you can run them really badly for a while and look really brilliant. In fact, the worse it is run, the better you can look. Stupid over confident people (and most accountants) don't know this, but do just glide into bigger and better things to ruin.

We live in both an epidemic and a cult of narcissism. Not narcissism as in vain and shallow but narcissism as in dangerous complete nut job.

Isn't a narcissist just another word for socio/psychopath ?

Two very different things.

A narcissist is obessed with status, prestige and how they appear to others. A megalomaniac at its extreme.

A psychopath views others as inferior and to be used to pursue their own aims.

Not surprisingly many top execs suffer from one of these personality disorders.

On the psychopath front recommend reading 'Snakes in Suits'
