Hms Not So Brilliant

A British warship fired on and killed three whales during the Falklands War after mistaking them for enemy submarines.

Them Whales could have caused all sort of problems for task force, Moby Dick terrorised the seas sinking ships left and right for years. Obviously the Navy couldn't take any chances with three of them on the loose. Didn't the Canberra also sink a whale by the sure fire method of ramming it at full speed on the way down south?

A Royal Navy ship sunk by an Argentinian submarine after taking no action in case it was a whale is a far worse scenario. How many ships have been sunk by whales? More than two.

It is funny that technology can confuse a essentially a large amount of fat as a very large metallic object, although you can't take the risk in war and must attack it.

Like the rest of the Argentine armed services the force is struggling to maintain its readiness in the absence of funds for maintenance and training. All three boats have maintenance difficulties and between them spent just 19 hours submerged in 2012.[1]

Wow 19 hours submerged last year!

The Argentinian Navy was under water much longer than that evidenced by the picture below..

Which despite what Kirchner says about Argie claims to the Falklands the MOD can safely brush her remarks away...

They would have trouble putting a torpedo boat to see with a competent crew these days.

Edit to add that sonar tech has probably come on a bit since 1982 and that whales need not fear British Warships any longer.B)
