Osborne On The A.marr Show

How can they get away with not pulling him up on his ridiculous answers to nearly all of the questions asked?

I can't believe that people are willing to put up with this. How on earth did we get to this point?

Because it's the Andrew Marr show. On the BBC.

The Andrew Marr and the BBC exist to support government policy. They are not right-wing or left-wing. Not conservative or socialist. They are just a propaganda tool.

Some half hearted questioning by Marr on government commitment to negative interest rates whatever the consequences and the increasingly desperate attempts to pump up house prices and consumer debt.

George's reply is a predictable "we're all in this together" and a statement of the central plank of economic policy to support the "noble aspiration" of the greedy to grab a piece of the HPI action. No mention of the equally noble aspiration of savers and pensioners to not see runaway inflation leaving them destitute after 40 years of work and saving. It's another clear buy signal for residential property. He is saying " buy a house or government will take your money".

Why are you watching Marr on BBC 1

You will find a more cogent discussion and realistic appraisal of the current state of the economy here

Describing buying property as a "noble aspiration" did it for me. Declaring war is something the government is struggling with these days, but that phrase is a clear signal of intent to punish anyone without a property or mortgage. Help to Buy will be expanded and extended. The house price bubble will be mercilessly inflated and taxpayers will be robbed to pay for it. Inflation will be given a stiff ignoring.

So the lightweight Andrew Marr is like his predecessor Sir David Paradine Frost? On the Frost show during the Nu Labour years David Blunkett would appear on his show almost every other week (or so it seemed). Blunkett would greet Frost with a very cheery "Morning, David". A sad contrast to Frost's interview with Nixon in 1977.:( I suppose Blunkett knew he going to have an easier ride with Frost on BBC1 than he would otherwise on Channel 4 with Jon Snow or Krishnan Guru Murthy.

The UK economy has to deleverage. It can accomplish this in only two ways: through asset price deflation or current price inflation, or both. Any attempt to reinflate the UK housing bubble will drive the UK further away from recovery and make the subsequent inflationary correction even more severe. A point may be reached after which the market determines that an orderly correction is no longer possible and a default/hyperinflation ensues i.e. a cumulative inflation rate >100% over three years.

It's not really a "noble" aspiration is it. It ought to be a fairly mundane aspiration for everyone except they've made it into something exceptionally hard in the UK.

oh...i thought he said knob head.

on a serious note this support for the hoysing market is nothing more than a continuing bailou out of tge bankers and they know it. to buy a house is nothing more than supporting this bailout and for me, right now, is the least noble thing inaginable.

the longer this goes on the more corrupt this looks.

this can only end badly for one group or another....id like to think them than did wrong will be pubish but im not sure this will happen!

there is nothing noble in supporting the failed banking system, just self serving greed and stupidity.

i am ashamed to have voted for this lot.

And refusing to buy one is ignoble and worthy of punishment.

The punishment is you either buy one at great expense well over historic values.....or you rent at extortionate rents from us.....you lose, lose we win, win. ;)

Well IMO if they could do that, they would have done it successfully by now. Volumes are going nowhere until there is a proper crash. Didn`t see the Andrew Marr show thankfully, the little intro bit of him running around like the little sophisticated urbanite so well informed with all the toilet paper he buys to take in to the office makes me want to laugh and puke in equal measure :(

Gidiot's argument for help to buy was that since houses are so expensive it is only right for the government to subsidise them. How from there can Marr not say could house prices not come down so people can afford them.

When will people wake up to this shite.

The only fly in the ointment being that rents have gone nowhere since the late 90`s, and in most places outside prime London are probably dropping? Come to think of it they are probably dropping in prime London now as well.

Hope you are right.....they need to come right down so that people/families earning the average local wage can afford to rent them without having to go into debt or beg for financial assistance.....otherwise we will be bringing up a nation of dependant needy people, people dependent on state top-ups and guarantees.....an illusional smoke and mirror recovery. ;)

True, this will mean a fair few BTL`ers going bust though, mainly the ones that paid too much for their properties.

Rented same place in London for six years. Rent has come down £25 in that time. Don't believe the hype, just reality. I told the estate agent what I wanted and what I was prepared to pay and that I was a long-term tenant.

Landlord loves me. No hassle, voids or empty property bills and keep the place clean. Estate agent wanted to raise the rent, LL told them where to go. He didn't want to risk losing me as a tenant.

Things are teetering on the edge now.

Agreed. It has run on longer than many of us thought though?

I found this site in 2006 when I was planning on buying a house. I can't believe 7 years later we are where we are, but I did not expect they would even try never mind get away with some of the stunts they have pulled.

Why are people still watching the BBC?

Even worse, watching 'LabourTory' on the BBC!

Its OK for Doctor Who and Top Gear and repeats of Dads Army. That is all.

Not watched BBC News or 'political' shows for weeks now, already my blood pressure is down, and I'm feeling a lot better.

Get a far better balanced opinion watching Al jazeera or Russia Today

It's not just the housing market though is it?

Massive deficit spending? Printing money? Completely messed up welfare system? Bank bailouts? Ridiculous student loans? etc.....

I wonder if Marr is aware of Chomsky's propaganda model about systemic bias in the mass media?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propaganda_model

He should be, unless he's forgotten about this.

Edit to add:

There's a transcript here http://www.aithne.net/index.php?e=news&id=4〈=0

And here's a quote:

Marr: How can you know that I’m self-censoring? How can you know that journalists are...

Chomsky: I don’t say you’re self-censoring - I’m sure you believe everything you’re saying; but what I’m saying is, if you believed something different, you wouldn’t be sitting where you’re sitting.

The BBC is awful, awful, awful.

The Marr show always does the end music bit, to pretend the audience are hip, like the "lefties" on the "News Quiz", to pretend we like womans football, homosexuals, Dr. Who and we are hip.

I quite like women`s football, prefer women`s beach volleyball though.
