Frank Hovis

Late 70S Early 80S Alternative

Recommended Posts

Frank, I went to see Bauhaus in the early 80s!

Also "Gang of Four", they did a great gig, but you never hear of them now!

A thread for all music types on here!

I'll kick off with one of the Sheffield set:

Clock Dva 4 Hrs

And Bauhaus at their lyrical best:

Flat Field

Frank, those two works of genius are hard to follow :D

But I will try...

Nice one MattW

How good is that? Couldn't resist.posting the lyrics

John Lyndon poet?

Hello. Hello. Hello. Hello. Hello. Hello.

Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha.

You never listen to word that I said

You only seen me

For the clothes that I wear

Or did the intrest go so much deeper

It must have been

The colour of my hair.

Public Image.

What you wanted was never made clear

Behind the image was ignorance and fear

You hide behind his public machine

Still follow the same old scheme.

Public Image.

Two sides to evrey story

Somebody had to stop me

I'm not the same as when I began

I will not be treated as property.

Public Image.

Two sides to evrey story

Somebody had to stop me

I'm not the same as when I began

It's not a game of Monopoly.

Public Image.

Public Image you got what you wanted

The Public Image belongs to me

It's my entrance

My own creation

My grand finale

My goodbye

Public Image.

Public Image.

Goodbye

In 1995 I bought a punk rock compilation CD and this was on it:

B)

I'm quite partial to this as well (creeping into the mid 80s tho')...

♫ anger is an energy ♫

Thanks, neon tetra. :) Coincidentally, John Lydon got a mention in a thread in the 'Current Affairs' subforum yesterday.

Rise is great too. B) Not familiar with any other PIL material though.

^ The Stranglers' 'No More Heroes' was released in the charts the same week I was born. :D I love the early Stranglers track with Dave Greenfield's sweeping keyboards and JJ Burnel's bone rattling bass guitar.

('Way Down' by Elvis was at number 1 that week - but Elvis isn't Alternative/New Wave).

Heard this while listening to a bit of Jeremy Vine on Radio 2 today :) (well the radio edit version anyway)

I just love that guitar riff. B)
