Explosion Of Toxic Algea In Uk?

Recommended Posts

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2388628/Summer-heatwave-blamed-toxic-algae-blooms-marring-Britains-beauty-spots.html

It seems this summer's heatwave came with an ugly side.

Waterways from Wales to Norfolk have turned an unsightly shade of green as a result of toxic algae blooms.

The soaring temperatures, combined with sharp downpours washing fertiliser into ponds and lakes, has led to a larger than usual explosion of algae.

Awful reporting here, no mention at all about what it's going to do for the house prices of these flats.

Is fertilizer to blame for this?

Has anyone noticed any dead wildlife caused by this?

At least three of the pics are from central london? I wasn't aware of fertiliser being used around those parts? So is the warm weather simply enhancing the growth of whatever is normally present? Gawd knows whats in those waters! I wouldn't have ranked them as particularly pleasant at any time.

Huddersfield Narrow Canal seems free of it. If any canal has fertilizer poured into it, it would be that one, and it has light holiday traffic on it. Think these London boats need to move about a bit more.

Frankly I've never seen so much wildlife as I have this summer. Perhaps the occasional emergence of the Sun isn't quite so hazardous to life as we've been led to believe.
