The Ayatollah Buggeri
http://www.dailymail...nce-claims.html And the Mail lists countries where it's suspect aid has been spent on expensive houses / planes etc... It gets better: that fine upstanding nation of Gabon even has a city called Bongoville, named after Ali's dad, Omar. And if Bloom's career in British politics appears to be on the skids, he could always be appointed as a professor of international development at Bongo University... geezer466
It matters not who you vote for. It is a one-party system with two factions of the same party. The consequences of not bothering to vote are indistinguishable from the outcomes suffered in casting it in a ballot box. The electorate are effectively disenfranchised since they play no part in policy decisions which affect their lives. The act of voting is simply an exercise in which the individual voter legally endorses whatever unknown he will be subjected to in a five-yearly cycle. It is a post-democratic age in which representative democracy as we have traditionally understood it has shifted from representation of the enfranchised electorate to the representation of the financial and business sector. You have no political voice, you do not shape policy, your only function as a voter is to give legal legitimacy to a single-ideology totalitarian state's existence in international law. Your function as a citizen is to satisfy the demands of the business sector while the function of the government is to implement the policy objectives of that sector. As long as you actually believe in representative democracy, then thats as good as the real thing! One of the policy objectives of the business sector is providing aid to parts of the third world. Usually to grease palms so transactions can proceed and additional profit can be made.
