Best Car Insurer

This is a worthwhile survey as it tells you what they're going to be like if you do have a smash. A counter to the usual price-driven selection in that you can see the value of what you're buying as well as the cost.

I confess not to reading through any more than the highlights of my policy but did research my recovery carefully as I wanted one that would bring me home if I broke down rather than taking me to the nearest garage. Which may be ok midweek but won't help me much on a Sunday when they're closed and I'm most likely to be in the middle of nowhere. I went with Green Flag.

This list will affect my choice next year, unless my existing policy renewal goes down like it did this year in which case I will stay with them again, despite their featuring way down the list.

I know somebody who switched from the Post Office to Liverpool Victoria after a crash because her own insurer, the Post Office, was so useless in dealing with the claim but LV (the other driver's insurer) were brilliant and I see that they feature high in this list, and the Post Office are nearly bottom. So the plural of anecdote can be data.

This is 2012's list, I heard it on the radio this morning so there must be a 2013 out there. There isn't a huge differential but I will be looking at the top ten if I change next year.

I know of Adrian Flux, as they insure weird cars, that nobody else would touch!
