Stale Smoke

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I recently went to view a house which reeked of stale smoke in practically every room.

As an ex-smoker myself (now on the leccy ciggies) this isn't a thread to bash smokers but to find out if you would bid on a house that stank of smoke? I've heard it can be hard to eradicate the smell afterwards....

If it needed new carpets and decorating, it wouldn't make any difference. I'd knock money off the offer to account for that.

When I was buying last time, stale smoke smell wound up fairly low on the list of priorities – the places that suffered tended to be wrecks anyway.

The smell is from the tobacco left on the furniture, carpets walls and ceilings. So price in replacing or deep cleaning every visible surface. For a short while I cleaned a bar on a ship many years ago. You'd be amazed what cigarette smoke leaves behind - it's a thick glue like brown residue.
