Which Bank Is Safest?

Given the current information coming out about Barclays and the Co-op, where would you open a bank account if you were starting from scratch and why?

What about Sainsburys because they don't do mortgages?

Their "homeowner" loans are done via what looks like a separate entity

Sainsbury's Bank does not offer loans over £25,000, however you may be able to receive a personalised quote from Freedom Finance. They have loans available of up to £250,000, with repayment periods of up to 30 years.

R B S. there is no way a government backed bank would be allowed to fail,if it did it would be game over for the pound.
