UPDATE 1-UK's Nationwide H1 profit up, sees flat house prices

"This year we have had zero house price inflation, and we expect that to continue for the next 12 months. We have adopted a purposively cautious approach to mortgage lending ... but we expect our profitability to continue to do well," Chief Executive Philip Williamson told Reuters.
Britain's fourth-largest mortgage lender said its gross home loan sales fell 21 percent to 10.8 billion pounds in the six months to September 30, and it expected them to stay around those levels in 2006 amid fierce competition and a subdued housing market.
