Online Pornography To Be Blocked Automatically

Recommended Posts

Online pornography to be blocked automatically, says the BBC.

Every household in the UK is to have pornography blocked by their internet provider unless they choose to receive it, David Cameron is to announce.

In addition, the prime minister will say possessing online pornography depicting rape will be illegal.

...`

I know that every single time that one of these "think of the children" filters has been introduced, it has later been extended to cover other types of websites. So, how do I explain to my wife that I will be instantly requesting that the filters be lifted, but no dear, it's not because I want to view porn - it's just because I don't trust the censors

Attracts less attention to opt out now than when they try to protect children from anti-British website promoting cheaper house prices.

What about books? I have read several books that depict women (and even men in some cases) being raped. Will they now be illegal? Are we going to have book burning sessions in each high street? What about music that depicts violence against women? Or music videos?

Ridiculous. The nanny state at its most invasive.

It also shows a complete lack of understanding of how computer software or the internet works. You can not just 'ban access to pornography' as any website can host a pornographic picture.

And someone will get their hands on lists of people who have opted in, and publish it, thus invading their privacy.

What confidence can anyone have that such information will not be stolen and published? None whatsoever.

I remember back in the day one of the early Cybernanny programs was made by Christians and even things like Jane Eyra were deemed unwholesome. As soon as you hand responsibility for what you, or your kids, can see to someone else you're asking for full-on censorship of anything they fancy.

Probably sites that criticized the government at the time. I can foresee HousePriceCrash being banned as CCC's profile picture would be classed as pornographic.

The list of those who ask for the filter to be removed should be made public so they can be shunned by all decent people, hopefully loose their jobs and eventually be forced into re-education camps.

Right wing nutters shut down internet.

Amusing that the free marketeer right though it would be the socialists!

Meanwhile forcing everyone to take on more household debt.

Quite hilarious really............

"I'm not making this speech because I want to moralise or scaremonger, but because I feel profoundly as a politician, and as a father, that the time for action has come. This is, quite simply, about how we protect our children and their innocence."

Force them into more debt. That'll protect their innocent souls and render them unto the City of London

The guy's a lunatic

There's a Catch-Tory buy-out........

If you vote Tory you're exempt , if you don't vote Tory you're clearly a pervert.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's an element of lobbying from the industry themselves in this. The amount of free stuff out there means the big boys must be getting creamed (if you'll pardon the expression). Next development will be a licensing scheme for "pornography providers".

Jeez, do Cameroon's kids spend their days spanking off to pron rather than doing their homework?

putting a prohibition on a thing means that crime flourishes around the sale of that thing.

Want Adult Selection Sir?...sure, we can remove the filter for just £20 per month.

Want Alcohol Sir?...sure, we have some genuwine labelled Bushmills from our secure warehouse for £100 a bottle..no questions asked.

Addicted to a drug Sir?....its £20 a shot.

It's a battle over the internet.

Cheap and nasty politicking taking advantage of victims of crimes perpetrated by bad people - bad people (a tiny minority).

Worrying intrusion. Cameron must really have some issues. Though I suspect this is thin end of the wedge stuff.

Thin end of the wedge indeed. Most "nanny lists" include legitimate shooting sites - my Voda sim blocks stuff like "Sporting Gun" which is full of perfectly reasonable reviews of shotguns. There will be all sorts of other inclusions.

I think this will come up against some severe issues in drafting. Take the "rape" argument. They don't like videos of people being raped. So far, so good. What about cinematic depictions of this (nothing to do with porn)? What about all the people who like a bit of bondage - is that rape? FFS, the woman is gagged and struggling, it must be rape....er, no it isn't.

Technically the guy is a moron - there are so many loopholes in any implementation that any half competent 12 year old will be able to access whatever the hell he/she wants. Just as I can access "The Pirate Bay", despite it being blocked by my ISP. It is a sort of daily mail knee jerk reaction without a lot of thought.

5 quid a month for a non tracking VPN, no opting in required.
