Guardian Interview With Farage

Recommended Posts

Quite an amusing piece - and an interesting comment from Farrage regarding Enoch Powell:

"And I did admire … the intellect of Enoch. But he was a very bad politician. And I think in many ways his legacy is that we paid a terrible price for the speech in '68, because it made discussing immigration too difficult after that."

Obviously, he remains a racist who hates darkies...

who are his political heroes? Mandela, I imagine… "He's a human hero," declares Farage. "That day he came out of Robben Island and stood there and forgave everybody, I just thought: 'This is Jesus.' I don't regard him as a political hero – I think he's on a rather higher plane than that."

That is quite an assumption. Especially given that most members of the ethnic minorities oppose further immigration!

How about someone who loves people of all origins, but doesn't want to see England turn multi-cultural?

If you don't let everyone barge in your home and sleep on your living-room floor, does that mean you are a hater? Or do you just think they should sort themselves out and get their own homes?

In fact, in my experience, racial hatred in the UK is almost exclusively from the immigrants to us!

Please report to your GP - your sarcasm detector is on the fritz (clue - read the next bit I quoted).

We need to stop dancing around "race" and admit that what we don't want are illiterates from the middle-ages.

Anyone got a problem with a black American doctor moving in next door? Anyone got a problem with an extended family of 16, only one of whom appears to work and their female children aren't allowed to talk to yours?

Exactly. Immigrants of any country/colour/religion etc should be able to prove they have something to offer this country other than a large benefit bill.

One of the problems is that many people don't understand the difference between race & ethnicity:

http://www.diffen.com/difference/Ethnicity_vs_Race

So any conversation about immigration is lazily dismissed with the racist card.

'Would Ed Miliband have a pint? I think he'd have a fruit crush`

Nigel Farage is straight up and I for one admire him and his views. Some say he is playing to the audience, well don`t all politicians. What matters are actions so the jury`s out on that. I believe he will take UKIP a long way. The amount of flack that is coming UKIPs way, shows how much other parties are concerned...

Are you suggesting that not all of the millions of people who came here since 1997 arent all highly skilled and bought solely to do jobs no Brit can do? Good god man

and I thought it was just employer discrimination that was keeping the obviously highly educated nuclear physicist illegal confined to work as a waiter in the local curry house...

But we live in a modern benevolent democratic welfare state where no one should suffer, provide an international health service and we also had a PM who once said he had "save the world"...

I've had good Muslim neighbours and bad ones (in the sense of 0-interest in integrating), and they certainly seem to be the most problematic of immigrants. TBH they remind me of large sections of UK ex-pats in Spain. That is not a good thing.

"And I did admire … the intellect of Enoch. But he was a very bad politician. And I think in many ways his legacy is that we paid a terrible price for the speech in '68, because it made discussing immigration too difficult after that."

So, he reckons Enoch was on the money, but just phrased it wrong so in the end it turned people off. Who would have thought that talking of rivers of blood would have got people thinking his ideas were barmy and alarmist.

If only he'd been as cunning as some of the world's successful xenophobes the job would be sorted by now. We'd all have nice uniforms, lots of flags everywhere and our kids would have the chance to join the Powell youth.

The sadness of Powell's legacy is that in opening up the wound, it prevented people from having a much more sensible conversation about integration and normalisation into an existing culture. It may be too late now.

The US was built with immigrants, some of whom proudly wear their Irish/Polish/German/Swedish heritage. But within a couple of generations they were resolutely American and salute the flag. They watch baseball and have lost their mother tongue. Even the Latinos drift that way. What we have is enclaves and mother cultures, including people who have been here 20 years and still don't speak the lingo. They'll live and die here and send their bodies "home" for burial. Chances are that their UK born kids will do the same.

Immigration isn't a problem per se. Failure to subsume the ones we have into the culture we celebrate is the problem. Farage has no concept of this.

Some immigrants. I doubt most peoples problems is with the Chinese and Indians/Hindu/Sikh, despite them having to overcome the same obstacles as the muslims. Thats not our fault, every country that has allowed muslims in is experiencing the same thing. Islam cannot be integrated.

He's old news. The only way we're going to get a hpc is for ed to come in and finish off what gordon started, complete annihilation of the state. I want to see a contemplation suite in every corner of the land, a merc war on every continent, balls in charge of the economy, unlimited expenses for mp's to be used on porno or whatever they want, public sector fat cats on 10 million a year plus perks, doctors teachers on a million a year minimum, gold plated pensions for everyone, -100% rates, fraudulent mortgages, taxes on everything from the air will breathe to the steps we walk, a space program for mars, a laptop for every person because computer they're good aren't they, health & safety training for every person in the world funded by the UK etc. Of course we've got to get those smart meters in, loads more mobile phone masts, anything to boost the risk of health problems to collapse the ridiculous nhs.

I don't think you understand Farage atall if you say that! He is no racist in any way. In fact the comment that you cannot discuss immigration easily without someone deciding to speak in the way you are is proved true. The party called UKIP believ that we should have borders and not allow anyone to arrive here from EU countries - they should be subject to the same requirements of Americans, Austrakians, canadians or indeed anyone else. We are the second most populated country on earth and cannot absorb endless people. I don't find people are racist in this country - just concerned about space, resources etc.

This racism debate needs to move on.

I'm culturist, not racist.

I genuinely believe that some cultures are objectively inferior to others. Inferior in terms of their adherence to despicable bronze age mythologies, their views on women and homosexuality and their inability to adapt, co-exist or integrate.

The moment you take the person their skin colour out of the equation this becomes remarkably easy to understand.

Sadly a lot of people are unable to understand it or unwilling.

The US has race relations issues that make the UK look like a model of racial integration.

Nigel is a NIMBY as he's currently hopping aboard the anti #hs2 bandwagon for gain some votes.

Unfortunately true. UKIP are very populist.

I suppose it's the only thing they can be though while they remain a tiny fringe.

Indeed - I considered voting for them as a nice way of kicking the other parties up the @rse, but, the more I looked at their manifesto, the more that stopped being an option. The bizarre thing is, most socialists are focussing their rage on UKIP's quite sensible, non-inflammatory, immigration policies (which, if they support the working-class, they should approve of), rather than the rest of the dross (which should have them up in arms).

Still, that might require that they stop shouting shouty things and start thinking thinky things, which is too much bother and not so much fun...

Isn't hs2 a white elephant?

It may well be, but Nigel is opposing it on the grounds of it laying waste to the countryside and demolishing homes.

The problem is... who do I vote for for an actual free market, and the government leaving me the hell alone?

Not seeing much alternative to UKIP atm, though I'm under no illusion that they are perfect.
