Congratulations Andy Murray

The daft thing is that I think she is actually pretty attractive both in looks and smarts. I think Inverdale has spent too much time with fatuous over manicured young women (or, more likely, wished he had).

...a truly inspiring display of skill, bravery and astonishing athleticism and sheer effort.

Absolutely top quality tennis from Murray to win, as good as any I've seen since (and including) Borg IMHO. Some of his shots were unbelievable!! He beat the number 1 to win and it was no pushover compared to some of the finals that I have watched in the 80s, 90s and 00s. A worthy winner in every way.

What shame would that be !!!... Is the elected leader of Scotland not allowed to watch another fellow scot play a sport......tool maybe but he is one tool that can run rings round the other tools ( Cameron,Osborne and the other bunch of English goons)... Murray does not hide the fact that he is a scot and not a Brit...once again when a scot does good it,s Britain,s joy and when England wins anything it is England's joy ...

While we're at it, well done to the Welsh lions beating Australia.

I've not watched tennis for years but saw the final 2/3s yesterday. Never looked in doubt. Did i hear it said that djok had never won a set agaibst murray on grass? Certainly not another in a long line of British bottlers.

In a crowd where flags are not allowed ? Sneaking in a Scotland Saltire to make a cheap political point ?

Yes - he is a complete tool.

So do I but I think it's just you and me versus the general consensus that she's a munter. I've always had a bit of a thing for her and seem to recall reading a few years back that she has an IQ of 140+ (possibly it was Mensa related).

They'd only played once on grass before; Murray winning in 2 sets in last year's olympic semi-final.

Shame about the blatant electioneering....

Someone should remind the fat one that he bummed his ticket to the final from the all England club.......

Mmmm, can't really agree with your assessment, she's ok and no more than that but it should be irrelevant. I didn't hear Sue Barker saying it was good tennis from Murray but he won't win any beauty contests. Mind most sports presenters remind me of Alan Partridge.

Anyway on to more important issues:

Why would I be pissed !!!!! So are you calling me an idiot ....explain yourself

It was the haphazard punctuation and late hour of posting which aroused my suspicions.

I think you were going well OTT with the Scot/Brit stuff. I heard it with regularity growing up, only to realise that in fact, no-one cares...

Scotland won yesterday not England....... As for the punctuation quote ...you can stuck that were the sun does not shine.....as I judge people on other merits than punctuation.... So do yourself a favour and keep your insults to yourself as I would love to show you who the idiot was .....

Good old Alex, never misses a chance to rub the "All England" noses in it

Of course he's a tool, he's a politician!

To be honest, the roar in the pub when Murray scored that last point was incredible. A couple of years ago Wimbledon wouldn't even have been on the telly, it would have been some footie match from Italy/Spain/Germany. He's certainly raised the profile of the sport North of the border. Well done that man!

How much did he win again?

And that will be paid in tax where exactly? ;)

Presumably Salmond thinks Wimbledon is no more Murray's home Grand Slam than the French Open?

You sir, are an idiot. Take that as gospel from an independence supporting/promoting Scot, living in the fair city of Dundee. Shut it CCC!

I'm not sure what kind of bar you were in, but it sounds to me like it might have been 'specialised'? Back in the UK, the WHOLE country seems to have got behind Murray. Although his success is entirely down to the hard work he and his team have put in, that support seems to have raised his game.

It's attitudes like yours that will ruin the chance of a YES vote next year, so could you do the rest of your nation a favour and keep your opinions to yourself until then?

Well done sir.

I didn't expect to see another Brit win Wimbledon in my lifetime, man or woman, so well done on breaking that 36 year duck.

Virginia Wade aside, the men's game had been very bleak until the Henman era, and even then we realised this light weight was never going to win it. As Roger Taylor's semi final exploits became a distant memory in the eighties, I used to get very excited that we had a man that managed to get to the last 16 or 32 every year in Jeremy Bates. Another light weight, but being a doubles specialist his serve and volley used to enable him to punch above his weight at Wimbledon; as did Andrew Castle, third round was it?

Rather surreal that we have gone from a 4th round appearance feeling like a massive achievement to actually winning it.

Probably, but he had tickets for this one!

Now for all you hot blooded males here is a real tennis looker from ages past.....

Martina-Navratilova-1990-007.jpg

There is something about here I can't quite remember or put my finger on!!

As a Scot I found Alex Salmond's gesture somewhat mawkish. I don't particularly like him anyway, but I do give him credit for his abilities. He is no fool, and no interviewer has laid a glove on him yet, not even John Humphrys.

I didn't like his gesture, or his comments afterwards. It is a minor issue in the scheme of things, but they reinforced my decision, thus far not to vote for independence come September 2014.

He also didn't really help Andy in his long struggle to win back English fans after his youthful football comment. Not that I condemn him for the comment. Those who turned against him were largely little Englanders anyway.

We have supported Tim Henman over the tears, and we still like him. The fact that he is English makes no difference. He is a nice guy. I would hope that the little Englanders can finally get behind Andy. He too is a nice guy.

I am proud that Andy is a Scot but I am also aware that he has English antecedents. He has an English partner and if there were to subsequently be children there would be more English blood in the mix. An old Scottish and north of England expression "we are all Jock Tamson's bairns" runs true here! I am happy to look upon the Wimbledon success as a British achievement!

However, please please please, don't keep going on about 1966!

Murray was very Nationalistic at one time, and why the Road to Damascus conversion...Kim Sears from England.

Best friend also English, Hutchins.

I suppose the Nationalists will have to hope that mummy gets him back from this English indoctrination. Forgetting her afterwards doesn't bode well, except that he wasn't that enthusiastic with Sears either.
