Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.

Did Peter Piper pick a peck of pickled peppers?

If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers,

where's the peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked?

;)

Betty Botter bought a bit of butter.

But Betty Botter found the butter bitter.

So Betty Botter bought a bit of better butter to make the bitter butter better.

Now Betty Botter has a bit of better butter than the bit of bitter butter.

Edit: found the 1899 original:

"Betty Botter" has some variations, but most are very similar.

When it was first published in "The Jingle Book" in 1899 it read:

Betty Botta bought some butter;

"But," said she, "this butter's bitter!

If I put it in my batter

It will make my batter bitter.

But a bit o´ better butter

Will but make my batter better."

Then she bought a bit o´ butter

Better than the bitter butter,

Made her bitter batter better.

So ´twas better Betty Botta

bought a bit o´ better butter.

Of course if you had Prince Charles saying that, it'd be 'Hie Nie Brine Kye.'

No idea what he thinks about hice prices, though.

I do like his Welsh accent, but Shirley Bassey should be the next monarch!

Surely being female, Betty would be the bottee rather than the botter...?

Mind you, either way I can see why she'd need the butter...

EDIT: Definition of 'Botter' for those not native to the North-East of England.
