Help To Buy For Retirement Flats

From what I've seen, McCarthy & Stone type retirement properties are typically cheaper to buy than 'normal' properties, so I don't really see the argument that elderly people downsizing would usually need more cash for the purchase.

What IMO puts people off buying them (even if they wanted such a place) is the frequently very high maintenance/service charges, plus they can be an absolute b*gger to sell either for probate or for care home fees.
