Migrant Exodus From Our Fruit Fields 'will Send Prices Soaring': Romanians Will Soon Be Free To Do Other Jobs

Recommended Posts

The committee said it did not believe British workers would be prepared to take the farm jobs.

Let me finish that sentence:

The committee said it did not believe British workers would be prepared to take the farm jobs for less than minimum wage.

Plenty of Polish still picking fruit/veg up here in Scotland, EU labour legislation hasn't changed the demographics either.

I don't really buy the story or facts as presented by the DM, as per usual.

If farmers have so much spare cash that they can bid up farmland to record prices, then they have enough profit to raise the wages they pay.

It's not, on the whole, farmers buying the land, they just rent it off the people who do.

A third of 67,000 jobs filled by romanians/bulgarians.

So, this would be a story if there were 22k jobs waiting to be filled, which for some reason no one else was looking at before these romanian/bulgarians decided to take them?
