Question About Ast

Recommended Posts

Lets say your AST contract comes to an end, and then you refuse to sign a new one with increase in rent, but you still carry on paying the rent.

If this happens before two months of the end, the landlord can serve you a section 21 notice, and kick you out at the end of the ast.

If it happens within two months or at the end, the landlord can serve you a section 21 notice and kick you out two months after that's correctly been served.

During that time, you'd continue paing the amount specified in the contract.

Ok, but would that classify you intentionally homeless? I was reading about landlord up rents and thought maybe people should no sign new contracts.

Sure this has been discussed on here before, but the general consensus on the internet was an emphatic YES to not signing a new contract, getting served 21 and then not becoming intentionally homeless for benefit purposes. There were a few news articles on it too.

And here's a great big juicy thread on it.
