Bought 2 reserve and collect from PCW on Tuesday. Must say given the source of my material its a lot less faff to put books on than getting them to my kindle app on my Nexus (tho thats probably not the best way to read material on my Nexus to be fair).

Use calibre to convert from most formats into ePub and simply tell it 'copy to my device' and it does.

Better than reading on my tablet which I found if I was reading while tired or for long periods (over 1hour) would start to hurt my eyes, not read for that long on this one yet though..

Basic Nook E-Reader available at £29. End of line or something. Knowing what a lot of skinflints we have here I thought I would post the link. Hell, it's so cheap that I've bought one.

Nook simple touch - £29

I am that skinflint

Snagged one to queue up behind my tired 1st generation Kindle and it's gaffer-taped cracks, thx

If these things are only built to survive a couple of years of moderate use, twenty nine quid is much nearer the appropriate mark imho

Yes, I figured that if I don't like it as a reader I can jut root it and have a new toy.

Completely OT, but this is the second (hopefully) bargain I've snagged today. If anyone's in the market for a telescopic tree pruner, specialist I know, but Amazon have dropped the price on a S&J model down from £20something to £15, delivered.

I know Amazon is Satan's spawn and all that but this business where it presumably price watches and undercuts competitors does throw up the occasional pleasing brain f@rt in its pricing.

Skinflints. ;)

The lit ones are miles better and worth a few quid more.

If those few quid are more than a pound store head torch (and a couple of rechargeables) they're too much ;)

edit: I picked up a Kindle when they first came out and a couple of people who looked it over mentioned that the screen was very nice and all that but they'd wait for the model with a backlight and colour screen.

The backlight I can sort of understand, even though it must knock battery life, but a colour screen? Obviously it would come in handy if erranta ever published a novel but most books seemed to have limped along in monochrome for a few hundred years now.

Backlight and colour?

No, the lit e-readers are lit from the sides and above/below, that's why they're nice to read and the battery lasts weeks, backlit and you might as well have a tablet.

I looked into this, it's the reason I have a Kobo glo instead of a Kindle Fire, the Kindle Paperwhite wasn't available at the time I bought.

I ordered one of these when it came up on hotukdeals, however they seem to have messed up, problems with processing credit cards, then supply... then confusing the customer with follow-up communications.

Good deal if you get it. E-readers seem vastly overpriced, so this was very tempting.

As I understand it, most of the cost of an e-reader is for the e-ink screen, which comes from a single supplier. So there's a lower limit that no-one easily break through.
