Germany's Version Of Coronation Street

Things are very different to the way things work on UK soaps.

Rather than shying away from mentioning elections or major news stories, the characters in Lindestrasse embrace current affairs and the discussion simply becomes part of the everyday script.

Wot next...East German Enders ?

I wonder if there's a German version of The Archers, Emmerdale, Family Affairs (now sadly no more), Crossroads (ditto), Albion Market (ditto), Eldorado (ditto), and something like The Bill or Crown Court (both also no more, of course).

There are quite a few Polish soaps, some centre around priests helping families in rural towns, and some are quite modern -- perhaps the most interesting (and with a pretty groovy theme tune) is about a family of Poles who foster different children, Rodzina Zastępcza (the foster family) Here's its opening credits - a pretty catchy tune I reckon . . .

A lot of Polish TV centres around family life - probably because it's a very family-first sort of place. Not a place to be single over the age of 25, or you feel very fifth wheel.
