George Osborne Targets Cayman Evaders

GEORGE OSBORNE is preparing a tough crackdown on two Carribbean tax havens, warning tax evaders: “The places you can hide are getting smaller and smaller”.

The Sunday Times reports that under strict anti-evasion measures being drawn up by the treasury, banks in the British Virgin Islands and the Cayman Islands will be forced to disclose details of customers suspected of hiding money offshore. Osborne said: "We are in advanced stages of discussion [with the two territories]. They are in no doubt about what we expect".

The islands are among the world's most popular offshore financial centres: more than 1m offshore companies are registered in the British Virgin Islands alone, even though the total population is just 30,000. ·

I wonder if he's going to rake his Oxford pals over the coals who have big nest eggs in BVI.

And, has he consulted fully with the Yanks before 'attacking' their off-shoring facility in the Caymans?

I'd say this will come back on him and see him sacked, perhaps soon.

Like lots of other stuff (referendum for example) it'll be timed to happen after the next general election and fat chance they have of winning that despite their crazy attempts at house price support etc.
