It's all coming out now and there's a lot more to this David Bennett chaps situation than was let on earlier. I think he's being a bit disingenuous.

The most telling thing on here (and I'm not blaming him if the system lets you do it) is that he didn't claim JSA when he was recently made redundant, but became self employed instead which I and others have been banging on about is much preferable to do when you take working tax credits, housing benefit etc into account. Also, you don't have the obligatory fortnightly meeting at the job centre and you can work as little or as many hours as you like.

I have said it before, if ever I get made redundant, I'm going to be a self employed Big Issue seller till I find another job.

Didn't mention left or right, but a certain type of people...you see those on the left, who are loaded, who stand up for the various causes of the poor, but are sort of "patronising" them, because they don't really understand their issues (as they walk back their million quid town houses in Islington - as you mentioned, and then go and tell all their friends about all the good they are doing....)

From Mrs Jellyby to Ms Toynbee.

[edit - my other thought wasn't appropriate]

Had to check who that was! (oh, I've heard of Polly Toynbee alright...)...

I suppose the modern take on it (on the left anyway) is the phrase champagne socialist...The political elite from all sides of the house come from the same types of background (PPE Oxbridge for example)... There's no real diversity....

There is some evidence that "back to work" advisors have been putting pressure on JSA claimants to go this route:

http://www.urban75.net/forums/threads/work-programme-employment-agency-advice.294931/

Helps to massage the very important "claimant count" for JSA. <whispers> Nobody really notices a big jump in self employed people at the same time as "Jobseekers" fall </whispers> ;)

But I'm terribly sorry old bean, Universal Credit is going to stop that wheeze (or at least limit it to short time period) :P

Nope, lived for a year on one quid a day, for a challenge. The fifty odd quid a week is now she's finished the challenge.

She may be unusual in having done it completely voluntarily, but I expect it's far more common than anyone in the chattering classes believes.

She's also from a generation that grew up with far less than people today have come to take for granted. She's presumably one of those who hasn't forgotten.

Yeah except all her bills were included in the rent and paid for. So she did not survive for £1 a day at all did she?

And where do all these supposed free buffets exist?

Complete BS headline.

Were German pre-war homosexuals, gypsies and disabled too bankers? Had nothing to do with being "bankers."

If people cannot see what is going on today, they are blind. Classic distraction politics. Pin some element of blame on some sector of society that had nothing to do with the fundamental part of the crisis, and gain popular support by it. Yeh its all the unemployed scroungers, single mums and those with spare bedrooms that bust the banking system. Burn them! Mind this Philpott tragedy hasn't helped and dare say will be fully exploited to bring in the neccessary "reforms."

The FascistTories will get a lot of support for this, but in reality the turkeys will be voting for Christmas, when the "middle class" welfare goes on the bonfire too. Let them get on with it.

Correct the Zionists who took over Russia and killed Millions have taken over EU America etc etc and starting the crap up amongst the populations whilst clamping down on spread of information.

As well as being caught out lying twice on his online CVs about his non-education by the BBC investigation,

IDS could not claim benefits after leaving army - cos he was illegally living with his Mrs (who had a secretarial job) in some dingy bedsit (where he got caught by the landlady)

As he didn't have his name on the rentbook he couldn't claim HB/benefits as no fixed abode :)

Illegal in the sense of a civil legal matter - it don't think he was do anything criminally illegal. He'd have been able to claim other benefits than HB of course, although his lump-sum payment on leaving the forces may have meant he had too much in savings to qualify (I don't recall the rules back then).

Fair play to the guy though, unlike probably anyone else on the front benches of any of the political parties, he has actually been genuinely skint for a period as an adult. And before anyone says it, being a bit hard up when you're a student and you've blown your grant/loan/parents money on too much booze is not being poor, it's playing a being poor, that's a whole different thing.

He told the Daily Mail:

"The honest truth is that I lived illegally with Betsy in the bedsit, trying to pretend I was not there. I didn't have any money, which is why I tried to avoid the landlady."

Eventually, he was spotted by landlady Mrs F_air but he was allowed to stay on in return for doing jobs such as changing light bulbs and wiring plugs.

They had no television in the bedsit but they had a radio.

Mr Duncan Smith eventually landed a job with GEC Marconi, who offered him the role of junior marketing executive.

"It was such a relief as I thought I would get a job more quickly," he said. "It took months. I never claimed benefits so the little bit of money I had when I left the Army was running out."

So he is lying to the electorate again with his honest truth? He's Bonkers

Will he never stop ?

Let's face it, the MPs struggle to do a fairly easy job on £1,200 a week. And that's will all their other expenses (like accomodation, travel to and from work, etc) met for them by taxpayer.

IDS couldn't live on £150 a week or £53 a week if he had to cover all his costs.

Correct....more, more, more is how they like it. ;)

Was that the Daily Mail in 1935?

Even with the details in the story never mind what has been left out, it advocates all those on benefits go back to serf status begging for a crust from their betters.

It also won't work on a large scale basis.

Plus rent included bills which is a large part of someone's benefit money. In fact if you advise housing benefit of this don't they reduce your benefit to factor in the bills.

How about the Maginot line then?

...hah ..the Germans just skirted round it ...and they will do the same with the French stance on the Euro ..which is to try and drain every one else dry...but now they are in free fall...no Maginot line or common agricultural policy will save them until they get rid of the socialist left.....

It's nothing to do with left or right - that crap is just diversionary tactics for the dumbed down

Masons,

Common Purpose management (infiltrating local councils, NHS, etc ),

our Zionist faux-Leaders infiltrated Westminster are all the problem.

Have you noticed all the 'f_rat' cons are the only ones getting huge wages/rises - the ones in non-jobs who constantly harrass the population
