interestrateripoff
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-21939811 A landlord has been fined £17,000 after admitting endangering the lives of a family in one of her properties.Sima Yaqub, of Crescent Road, Sheffield, pleaded guilty at Sheffield Magistrates Court to five offences under the Gas Safety Regulations 1998. When the family moved into the property in City Road last July, Yaqub did not have a Landlord's Gas Safety Record for the boiler. Yaqub was also ordered to pay costs of £6,916. After the original boiler in the home had broken down several times, Yaqub replaced it with a used one installed by unregistered fitter, magistrates heard. The replacement was deemed as "immediately dangerous" when seen by a qualified engineer. I think this landlord deserved jail time, gas isn't something you mess around with. cashinmattress
Far too many landlords and home owner/occupiers flirting out there with the law, installing or frigging with the 'lekky and gas. Always ask to see the safety certificates BEFORE signing on a lease, or buying for that matter. And if you suspect they don't have or have doctored them, call the authorities immediately. Don't fvck around with your life because your landlord is maverick cheapskate.

I suppose it depends who you are. An illegal gas fitter not so far from me was jailed for dangerous work. http://www.hse.gov.uk/press/2013/rnn-yh-gas-fitter-jailed.htm
