scrappycocco
He seems like the type of person that is set in his ways i.e. baby boomer, landlord, champagne socialist do as I say not as I do, reckless lender lover, police state nolabour party supporter, debt fixes everything. Dorkins
In a sense he's right. Most renters are young people, and most young people have failed to achieve the level of economic security their parents had by the same age. This failure is not really the fault of the young people themselves though.
righttoleech
He sounds like a patronising tosser to me. His holier than thou attitude grates. A cross between champagne socialism and tremendous pride that he has ascended to the middle class that he once despised. Nick Abbott is great. Friday and Saturday only at 10pm. Can't say I agree with his NHS bashing views, but superb sense of humour and hatred for bankers......recommended.

Like someone pointed out on another website - 'they' have well trained 'fake' (controlled) contrarian broadcasters which they use as a misleading population venting release valve (max keiser, bill still) etc Loads in USA whilst they complete the install of their (freudian)marxist-crony capitalism- dictatorship aBBoTT

Then they have willfully blinkered presenters like Nick Ferrari and James Whale and others that are truly painful to experience.

James O'Brien is ok if you accept his assertion that renters are failures - I don't. Mind you, most of the callers that I heard today were complete whiners. "I come down and look at the tiles in the kitchen and they're not MY tiles". All I heard was "I can't get a deposit". No mention of house prices in London being totally insane. O'Brien is a conceited tossbag who thinks he's kirsty allsop. Edited March 19, 2013 by The Dude
inflating
When I used to listen to him he was OK. Has he had his brains sucked out by some aliens and replaced with mush? Sounds like it, or he was being deliberately controversial to encourage a reaction to what might have been very much tongue-in-cheek (I mean his own, hopefully). cybernoid
Has anyone thought to explain to him that people with mortgages dont own their homes either? I expect interest only mortgage debtors are home owners too by his definition? It's just ignorant twaddle.

saving since 2005
If you don't like this James, the other James that keeps going on about his time as an investment banker is many multiples worse. Slimy annoying bloke.
talby
Yes, James O'Brien is an insufferable idiot at times, and I always switch off when he is in such a mood - he's got into the habit of talking over callers who disagree with his narrative. The other day he was trying to somehow justify the theft of money from people's bank accounts in Cyprus with the "who else is going to pay" line. Sad to say I've gone right off him. And yes, James Max is also extremely irritating when he goes into "ex-investment banker" mode - but he's OK when he avoids finance ! Nick Abbot is the best thing on radio - and also Anthony Davis is great too (is he an HPC reader ?) - he's on right now saying "what happens in Cyprus could happen here". blackgoose
Todays first time buyers in London not only have to compete with the bankers, not only billionaires from all over the world, but millionaires and small business owners from China, India and elsewhere who all want their 'investment' in London. There really should be capital controls saying who should be allowed to own property here. Though I doubt James understands or cares about having to compete with foreign rich. Hopefully he will wake up when he realises how shafted his kids are.
