Snub For Chancellor As Ams Debate Housing

Recommended Posts

AMs delivered a snub to the Chancellor’s plan of giving tax breaks to second-home owners, passing an amendment “deploring” Sipps.

It called on the Welsh Assembly Government to make “representations to the UK government for properties in Wales to be excluded from Sipps“.

Ms Hart replied: “I fully appreciate how over-heated the market has become in rural Wales and in Cardiff.”

To be honest I doubt it'll bother GB very much, unless he thinks the issue might become a serious vote loser in the next round of elections when he hopes to be PM - but he's probably more concerned with maintaining his current reputation as a 'good chancellor'

The way round this for the Welsh Assembly would be to whack up council tax for second homes* to say... £10k.

That would put people off.

*Those that are not rented on assured tennancies.
