Car Insurance Deflation....

Recommended Posts

Just got my car insurance renewal in and the price has gone down.

last year:

£374

This year

£358

And that's without phoning up and asking them for a better deal.

This has never happened before....am I dreaming ?

I might even just accept the renewal without arguing this year.

P.S. That is with elephant....god bless them.

I'm guessing you're a year older than you were this time last year, correct?

I'm a year older every year and the price has never gone down in 23 years of motoring !!!!!

P.S. not moved house, circumstances not changed, details the same as last year.

Mine went down as well this year (in the past has gone up every year, until I ring up, and then they bring it down a bit).

I just assumed they'd worked out that I was the type of person who wouldn't just automatically accept a renewal quote, so stopped trying it on every year!

Are they starting to move towards equalisation of premiums between men and women, as directed by the EU?

I believe they can no longer charge you more simply for being a man, or if you prefer, give you extra discount for being a woman.

This, if you had a sex chaneg in the year it would have gone up

I thought elephant were an online broker, not an insurance company?

Yep mine came yesterday and is cheaper than last year ... its also cheaper than the same company via the comparison sites.

One thing I did find funny was the price is cheaper when I added my wife to the quotes and she has 3 points and an accident.

Have you got 9 points and 3 accidents?

Recently renewed insurance, my wife got a good deal from Aviva, they currently offer a discount if you have 4 years no claims (which I don't so was unable to take advantage):

http://www.aviva.co.uk/car/

Added to this, Aviva were offering £80 cashback on Quidco, and similar on Topcashback (although this is not guaranteed to be paid). Might still be available.

Brought my wife's cost down from ~£300 to ~£170 this year, assuming cashback is paid. Protected no claims too.

They read your thread about your petrol tax and felt sorry for you.

Very good.

I'm going to start a thread on how much I'm paying for my gas bill.

I did think it was maybe this male/female equalisation thing, can't think any other reason for it to go down.

Nope no accidents or points B) ... she is older than me tho

I've also just bought an old car that I can insure on a classic policy for £112 a year :D

My motorbike also costs about £100 a year for a 1000cc 170mph superbike :D
