House Price Crash Forum

Recommended Posts

The following things are things that I have heard people be "in denial" about:

1/ That house prices can or will fall

2/ That people dont have enough to retire on

3/ New Labour in denial that Iraq is working out badly

4/ That bullying and abuse is widespread and common

Being "in denial" is a sort of psychological condition. Any more ?

Personally, I agree strongly with all your 4 points.

However, all of them are on such a grand scale it is impossible for one person to verify or deny them. I.e. you and I believe them to be true, but they are not incontravertible.

I think the psychological state of denial is when someone denies something that is obviously and incontravertibly true and indeed which that person has seen all the evidence that exists. For example a bereaved relative denying that their loved one is dead (when medical staff etc have verified this).

However, you may have a point that the two phenomena are related.

Just thought of another one. Problem drinkers are often "in denial" that they have a problem.

Gambling.....even on a small scale.

People win 10 quid on the lottery twice in 3 months and they tell you how lucky you are.

I knew a guy who would "win" on a fruit-machine then put it all back. The next day he would tell you how he won 40 quid the night before.

TB,here's a philosophy question for you.

If two men are talking in a forest, and there are no women around to hear them, are they still wrong?

That the future shortage of oil is real.

The latest sign of the denial being the story that shortages are something cooked up by oil companies to drive up the price. Conveniently ignoring the fact that oil companies in general are NOT saying that there's a shortage and in fact claim the reverse (not backed up by hard data unfortunately).

The public is clearly in denial about oil.

In Denial.....

I need this 20k homeowner loan to buy that 4x4 to take my two children to school. No worries IRs will fall shortly making the repayments soft and gentle. Ive got to be right Carol Voderman says so and she is a maths genious.

Everybody knows the UK roads are so dangerous that taking the children out in anything smaller would be irresponsible.
