Ft Article On N Z Interest Rates @ 7%

Recommended Posts

Very interesting language used in this report re. New Z, be interesting to hear the same remarks closer to home

The Reserve Bank of New Zealand on Thursday raised its interest rate to 7 per cent, the highest in the developed world, and signalled that rocketing property prices and household spending made further rises a near certainty.

The rise, of 25 basis points, was expected but economists said the unusually strong language used by Alan Bollard, Reserve Bank governor, pointed to another rise this year. The so-called “official cash rate” has risen by two full percentage points since early 2004 and now stands at a near-eight year high.
