A few years ago and in safer times I was able to spend some time in Egypt.

Near Cairo the first of all the pyramids is the steps Pyramid...

(It looks like a bunch of steps..)

The first ever stone built structure..

now the outside is a little knackered.. 5000 years in a desert will do that..

You can't enter the pyramid but you can go through some of the outbuildings..

Now the outside was worn, the inside wasn't. and they used no mortar they cut the stones so that they would fit onto one another..

5000 years later you can run your hand along the wall and not feel the seam.. you can see it as the grain in the stone changes..

you can't feel it...

Now I was just in a year old barratt home..

the stairs are coming away from the wall..

The shame is.. that with these catastrophic house prices the morrons prepared to pay the money were not clever enough to insist on good build quality..

So I have seen the first attempt at building and the last..

amazing how far we have come..

Shite

Given that thousands of slaves died in the process of building the pyramid, and it probably took decades to complete, and cost so much that only a ruler of a great nation could afford it, maybe the Barratt home is not such a bad compromise.

On second thoughts, only the ruler of a great nation could afford a Barratt home these days, so I take it back. :P
