India Increase Interest Rates - Now 5.25%

Recommended Posts

"MUMBAI (Reuters) - India's central bank raised a key short-term interest rate on Tuesday to ward off price pressures, as expected, and increased its growth forecast for one of the world's fastest expanding economies. The central bank lifted its reverse repo rate, used to drain liquidity from the money market, by a quarter of a percentage point to 5.25 percent.

Analysts said hawkish comments on inflation pointed to more rate increases ahead, with six out of 10 in a Reuters poll expecting another quarter-point rise in January."

This is interesting, but should maybe be awarded the "most tenuous link to UK house prices" award for this week?

The new global economy is going pear shaped fast

OTTAWA (CP) - Some sectors of the economy have been shedding jobs, but interest rates will likely continue to rise to keep future inflation under control, says the governor of the Bank of Canada.

More than a million Canadians are looking for work and the manufacturing sector in particular has been shedding workers as it copes with a strong dollar, David Dodge said Tuesday under questioning by the all-party Commons finance committee.

But higher borrowing costs are needed now to keep inflation from catching fire in the coming years, Dodge added in comments just one week after his second interest-rate hike in as many months.

Er hello. How much do you know about interest rates in India? IIRC rates there have been as high as 13% within the last 2 years, so this is still historically low
